Meet the Hands Behind the Harvest
Real People. Ancestral Wisdom. A Grain’s Journey Begins Here. Behind every grain of rice lies a story — of care, culture, and quiet resilience. At Pure Essence, we don’t just bring you native Indian rice; we honour the tribal farmers who have safeguarded these heirloom grains for generations. This page is our tribute to them — the real keepers of purity and tradition.
Guardians of India’s Native Rice Heritage
For over 20 years, Meena Bai has lovingly cultivated Chinnor rice on her ancestral land. A custodian of traditional farming wisdom, she sun-dries each harvest and carefully maintains the purity of this GI-tagged grain. “Food grown with love,” she says, “has the power to heal.”
Hailing from a quiet village in Madhya Pradesh, Ram Kishan grows Kodo rice the rain-fed way — just as his father did. His deep commitment to sustainable farming isn’t just a livelihood, it’s a legacy — for his children and for the health-conscious families across India.
With hands seasoned by decades of nurturing the land, Sita Devi embodies the spirit of slow, natural farming. Her Vishnu Bhog rice fields are a celebration of harmony — no chemicals, no rush — only patience, passion, and the rhythm of nature.

Rooted in Tradition, Grown Sustainably
At Pure Essence, we honour the time-tested rice farming traditions of Chhattisgarh—a region proudly known as the “Rice Bowl of Central India.” These practices are not only deeply rooted in culture but also grounded in sustainability, resilience, and respect for nature.
Our rice is grown in rain-fed fields using traditional methods suited to the region’s natural climate. Farmers rely on drought-tolerant native varieties, passed down through generations. Unique techniques like:
Chhattisgarh’s rice farmers continue to embrace organic, chemical-free practices:
These practices protect not just the harvest—but the ecosystem, the soil, and the future.
Even today, small and marginal farmers harvest rice by hand using sickles, sun-dry the grains, and use natural wind for winnowing. Grains are then stored in earthen pots or traditional mud granaries (Kothis), safeguarded with age-old techniques like salt water cleansing and dung-ash sealing—a true blend of function and folklore.
These ancient methods are more than tradition—they are sustainable, climate-resilient, and help preserve the genetic diversity of over 23,000 indigenous rice varieties from the region. Every grain of rice from Pure Essence carries not just nourishment, but the story of a land, its people, and their timeless wisdom.
At Pure Essence, we stand for transparency, sustainability, and dignity. Every purchase supports Local farming families and preserves a living legacy of native Indian rice.
